The Bipolar Child, by Demitri Papolos, MD and Janice Papolos
Bipolar disorder was once thought to be rare in children. Now researchers are discovering not only that bipolar disorder can begin early in life, but that it is much more common than ever imagined. Yet the illness is often misdiagnosed and mistreated with medications that can exacerbate the symptoms. Why? Bipolar disorder manifests itself differently in children than in adults, and in children there is an overlap of symptoms with other childhood psychiatric disorders.
Join us for a deep dive discussion into one of the most sought after books by parents of children with bipolar disorder. Since it first appeared on bookshelves, The Bipolar Child has made an indelible mark on the field of psychiatry and has become the resource that families rely upon.

Silver Linings Playbook
After eight months of treatment in a mental health facility for bipolar disorder, Patrizio “Pat” Solitano Jr. is released into the care of his parents, Patrizio Sr. and Dolores. His primary focus is to reconcile with his ex-wife, Nikki who has not only moved away but she’s obtained a restraining order against him.
Pat’s therapist tries to convince him to keep taking his medication to avoid a relapse that might send him back to the hospital. Pat tells him that he has a new outlook on life: He attempts to see the good, or silver linings, in all that he experiences.
Watch the movie and then join parents, caregivers, educators, and practitioners who are interested in watching films and reading books related to mental health, mental illness, parenting, and more. What Happened to You?: Conversations on Trauma, Resilience, and Healing by Bruce D. Perry, MD, PhD. and Oprah Winfrey
Our earliest experiences shape our lives far down the road, and What Happened to You? provides powerful scientific and emotional insights into the behavioral patterns so many of us struggle to understand.
Have you ever wondered “Why did I do that?” or “Why can’t I just control my behavior?” Others may judge our reactions and think, “What’s wrong with that person?” When questioning our emotions, it’s easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It’s time we started asking a different question.
Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”
Join us for a deep dive discussion.
